Srednja škola Valpovo
Valpovo, Croatia
High School Valpovo is a polyvalent (mixed) school that includes departments of grammar school and vocational programmes in three different sectors: economy and sales (economist, commercialist, shop assistant), machinery (CNC operator, machinist/welder) and electrotechnician and technician for electronics. Beside regular school subjects, there are many possibilities in elective, additional and facultative subjects and many extracurricular activities that are very recognized in our region and even wider.Students and teachers have great achievements in very different fields: “European Statistics Competition” (three consecutive final stage achievements: overall 23rd place out of 514 teams), foreign languages, school choires, an international completion in maths called“Kangaroo without borders” etc.
Currently, we are having some of our lessons online and the teachers get in-service training which is about distance learning and using technology in the classes. Although there is no program in our school that has programming or coding as subjects in its regular curriculum, we have very interested students that go to school's non-obligatory courses in that field and are capable to follow even the advanced courses in IT sector. When talking about IT equipment, the school is included in the network "e-Škole" (or "e-Schools") which provides us strong support both in hardware and software solutions. Our school has a long-term contract with experts from technical centers, specialized in working with children and young people. Also, we have a cooperation with several small businesses in our city, who are specialized in the development of different kinds of software, including educational games, quizzes etc. With such cooperation, we can also educate our teachers in this field.
In this type of project, we will involve all interested students, aged 15-19, that are educating in our school. We have many different curriculums (grammar school and VET), but altogether we are working interdisciplinary.
